Quick Tip: Stylish Throughout
The last couple
of versions of Microsoft Word introduced users to "panes" that
pop up on the right side of the screen to help guide you through certain tasks.
One of these panes is the "Styles and Formatting" pane. Here's a
very useful capability of this pane. Here's one of my favorite features:
Let's say that you've created a document that includes text formatted in several styles - perhaps your body text is Times New Roman 12 pt, and your Headlines are Times New Roman 14 pt. Now you want to change the appearance of your document by changing all the headlines to Arial Bold 12 pt font. Instead of using your mouse to highlight each individual headline in the document, get them all in one-fell swoop like this:
- Open your Styles and Formatting pane by clicking on the Styles and Formatting button. (It looks like two AAs and is usually the first button on the left side of your formatting toolbar.
)
- Then place your cursor in the middle of one of your headlines. (Notice that the format of that headline shows up in the Styles and Formatting Pane in the field at the top labeled "Formatting of selected text".)
- Click on the [Select All] button below that field. It highlights EVERY piece of text in your document with the same formatting -- in this case every headline.
- Now use your toolbar to format the text as you normally would.
- When you're done, click anywhere else in your document to cease the selection of all that text.
- Now you can close the Styles and Formatting Pane using the [X] in the top right corner of the pane.
